Renunciation
According to Tibetan
Buddhism, in order to reach liberation, one must renunciate samsara, or
those attachments to the material world. However, renunciation has a
different connotation than what we might have in the western world. It
really does not mean that we should do
without pleasures, it is actually based more upon perspective; in other
words, the extreme mind, which is what we deal with most of the time, is
a grasping mind, it is a craving mind, and it places an overestimated
value on objects and people, which would have nothing to do with the
reality of the object or the person. That is a definition of
renunciation that I can live with.
