Laura, as a long time student of paranormal activity I would agree with your assessment. Whether it be a protection prayer, a spell for prosperity or the trance readings of a sleeping prophet, there are many activities that exist outside of conventional science, as it exists today. My belief is that eventually our world will come to understand that magick, supernatural and paranormal activity all have a purpose in our world for those who are willing to maintain an open mind without the blinders of and antiquated belief system. In Tibet in the 1920's, the 13th Dalai Lama maintained a State Oracle who correctly predicted the Chinese invasion of Tibet, 30 years in the future.
